Severodonetsk is one of the several Ukrainian cities whose public transport will be replaced with new, eco-friendly and energy-efficient vehicles thanks to EU support. The use of electric public transport will not only significantly reduce the city’s CO2 emissions, but will also bring Severodonetsk closer to European standards.

Together with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the lending arm of the European Union, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has launched the second phase of the project ‘Ukraine urban public transport’, focusing on upgrading the public transport fleets in 18 cities: Severodonetsk, Vinnytsia, Uzhhorod, Cherkasy, Kremenchuk, Bila Tserkva, Melitopol, Kamyanske, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Lutsk, Zaporizhia, Lviv, Poltava, Odesa and Chernivtsi.

The estimated total cost of the project is over €400 million, which will cover the purchase of more than 280 trolleybuses, 65 electric buses, 24 trams and about 10 tram cars. The project also envisages construction and modernisation of tram and trolleybus lines, an overhaul of tram cars and other works.
