On 18 December, the official opening ceremony of the newly refurbished No.4 preschool in Dubno, Ukraine, took place. It is the only kindergarten in the Rivne region to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment adhering to EU standards. As a result, more than 100 children in Dubno will spend this winter in more comfortable conditions in an adequately ventilated premises, and the town authorities will receive lower heating bills. The opening ceremony was attended by officials from the local government and the project representatives.

This was made possible thanks to the ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’ programme and the energy-efficiency project ‘Warm Schools and Kindergartens as the Pre-Condition of Children’s Health: a Comprehensive Project in Raising Energy Savings of Educational Institutions of the Town of Dubno’, implemented by the town with EU support.

The preschool is the first of four educational institutions to undergo energy modernisation work. Within the project, parts of the basement, walls and attic were reinforced; a new heating system, windows and doors were installed; the roof was replaced; the walls were insulated; and other important reconstruction work was implemented. According to preliminary estimations, the kindergarten’s annual energy consumption will be cut by 51%, saving up to UAH 256,500 annually.
