The city of Slavutych in Ukraine has developed and diversified its economy, with the support of the EU Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) initiative. On April 15, the project ‘Local Economic Development Plan: Slavutych is a growth driver of open and free economy of the region’ outlined its achievements since it won the M4EG grant in 2017.

Over the period 2018-2021, a plan for local economic development was successfully implemented: a partnership of communities was established, and and investment portal, legal business protection service and new electronic services for business were created; a business training programme was implemented, and a modern business park was constructed and put in operation.

“The Slavutych of yesterday is a satellite city of Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, with its economic and social situation dependent on nuclear industry. The Slavutych of today is a city with a diversified economy,” said the Mayor of Slavutych Yuriy Fomichev. “According to the Regional centre of economic research and business support, in 2019-2021 Slavutych ranks first in the Kyiv region among small and medium-sized communities in investment attractiveness, and is among the top ten best communities of Ukraine.”

“The city has also made good progress in digitalisation and renewable energy, and is well positioned to explore other green transition opportunities, such as circular production or smart mobility,” said Chloe Allio, Head of the Economic cooperation, energy, infrastructure, and environment section at the European Union Delegation to Ukraine.

The total budget of the project was €850,050, including €650,000 donated by the EU grant.
