The EU4Energy Governance project, financed by the EU, is running over a four-year period from June 2016 to June 2020. Every year, the Energy Community, responsible for implementing the programme in Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, publishes the national programmes for each of the three countries. A new blog post by the Energy Community provides an overview of this year’s priorities.

Work will continue on energy efficiency in buildings in Georgia. The EU4Energy Governance project will provide support in developing regulations and guidelines for the regular inspection of heating and air conditioning systems. Also, the project will continue to support Georgia’s efforts in reforming its wholesale electricity and gas markets. The protection of vulnerable customers will be a focus of the work to be carried out by the EU4Energy Governance project this year.

The EU4Energy Governance project will provide assistance to Moldova and Ukraine in preparing a strategy for mobilising investments to renovate and upgrade existing buildings so they are more energy efficient. In the area of electricity, the work of the EU4Energy Governance project in Moldova will focus on continuing work in the electricity balancing market. In Ukraine, the EU4Energy Governance project will also continue to support the completion of gas market reform.

A challenging and exciting year lies ahead, with support and assistance to be provided to Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in implementing necessary energy sector reforms that will change the energy landscape of the three countries.
