Georgia, Tbilisi: Tbilisi ‘green’ buses

In the capital city of Georgia, Tbilisi, a fleet of low-floor and low-emission buses conforming to high safety standards and EU regulations replaced the old polluting buses with no air conditioning and unsuited to the needs of elderly or disabled people.

Energy efficiency measures at Tbilisi Baby House aimed at: improving the comfort level in the buildings; decreasing the energy consumption and the energy bill as well as contributing to the decrease of GHG emissions to the atmosphere and in general improving the environmental situation in Georgia.

Within the EU-funded « Access to Renewable and Efficient Energy in Vayk and Spitak Municipalities » (AREEM) project, replicable and efficient models of energy-saving schemes are developed and tested in the municipalities of Spitak and Vayk through the use of efficient measures and renewable energy sources in residential and public buildings.The project is implemented by Habitat for Humanity Armenia Foundation.

The “Improving Energy Efficiency in Residential Buildings” project, managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aims at removing legislative, institutional and technological barriers to improve energy efficiency in new residential buildings in Belarus.

8 low-energy standards public buildings have been selected by the City of Lutsk to go through an energy efficiency improvement programme.

Aleea Convenției Primarilor a fost plantată joi, 22 octombrie 2020, în parcul de la intrarea în oraşul Stăuceni, municipiul Chişinău. Puieţii au fost oferiţi de către proiectul UE „Convenţia Primarilor – Est”, drept premiu pentru participarea activă a localității în cadrul Săptămânii Europene a Energiei Durabile. De asemenea, aleea a fost completată cu arbori achiziționați de primăria Stăuceni. La evenimentul de plantare au participat primarul Alexandru Vornicu, viceprimarul Sergiu Lazarencu, reprezentantul Delegației Uniunii Europene în Republica Moldova Ion Guzun și expertul național al Convenției Primarilor în Moldova Victor Parlicov

Proiectul „Convenția Primarilor – Est” în Moldova a desfășurat, la 27 octombrie 2020, un training on-line dedicat creșterii conștientizării privind participarea în Convenția Primarilor. La eveniment au participat reprezentanți EUD Moldova, ai structurilor se sprijin la nivel național, reprezentanți ai mai multor primării. Instruirea a fost dedicată semnatarilor pasivi ai Convenției Primarilor în Moldova (CoM) şi potenţialilor semnatari.

CoM East project support provided to the municipalities in EaP countries in the new realia of COVID-19 pandemic is in the focus of the 11th issue. Despite the difficult situation, CoM Signatories demonstrated alternative, creative and innovative approaches on their way to green recovery and resilient energy future. The newsletter presents a number of specialized webinars, trainings and other online events for CoM Signatories, CNCs/CTCs and Supporters organized by the CoM East teams in six Eastern Partnership countries in order to increase their capacities to ensure sustainable development in their communities as well as to meet the undertaken energy and climate change adaptation commitments. Also, you will find the main figures demonstrating the Covenant of Mayors growth in the region, information about the project pipelines aimed to increase the transparency of local (municipal) investments and learn about the most typical mistakes made by the Signatories while filling out their SEAPs.
