Four municipalities in Moldova that are signatories of the Covenant of Mayors Eastern Partnership (CoM East) are receiving vital support from the Nordic Environmental Finance Corporation (NEFCO) for energy efficiency projects. These initiatives aim to optimize energy consumption and improve conditions in educational institutions, contributing to a more sustainable future for the communities involved.

During a recent event in Chișinău, representatives from NEFCO, the Ministry of Energy, the National Energy Efficiency Agency, municipal leaders, and project implementers gathered to discuss the proposed energy solutions.

The participating communities presented their energy efficiency projects, each targeting specific needs and opportunities:

  • Anenii Noi: Modernisation of heating systems and school insulation.
  • Cărbuna: Efficient lighting and window modernisation.
  • Mândrești: Integration of solar panels.
  • Zubrești: Modernisation of insulation and ventilation.

The mayor of Cărbuna, Constantin Cecoi, highlighted the significant impact the project would have on the “Scufița Roșie” Kindergarten, estimating an annual savings of 150,000 lei through reduced energy consumption and the use of renewable resources.

Similarly, Oxana Guzun, the mayor of Mândrești, reaffirmed the community’s commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions by 30% by 2030, with NEFCO’s support playing a crucial role in achieving this ambitious goal.

This project, titled “Energy Efficiency Rehabilitation of Educational Institutions in Local Communities,” is funded by NEFCO, with co-financing from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P). It is implemented with technical support from Norsk Energi (Norway) and the Alliance for Energy Efficiency and Renewables (AEER, Moldova).
