Moldova, Calarasi: Efficient public lighting

The project in Calarasi was implemented under Demonstration projects programme. Within the project the following measures were implemented: 1) Modernization of the street lighting system in Calarasi: replacement of 951 luminaries with LEDs, modernization pf 25 km of cables/streets and 25 control cabinets, overall online management system. 2) Installation of architectural lighting at the Calarasi Museum of History and Ethnography. Within the project, additionally 30 pedestrian crossings were highlighted to improve security conditions of the urban traffic. A new street lighting control system was introduced including dimming (real-time, internet-based) and modernization of 25 control cabinets.
Moldova, Festelita: Creation of excellence centre through piloting demonstrative new energy efficiency technologies and renewable energy sources

The project in Festelita was implemented under Demonstration projects programme. Within the project the following measures were implemented: 1) Installation of solar panels systems for water heating at kindergarten (capacity 5,5 kW), 2) Installation of biomass burning boiler rooms at 4 public institutions (total capacity 561 kW), 3) Plantation of 5 ha with Salix Willow trees (biomass source), 4) Installation of 241 environmentally friendly street light luminaries on public streets, using LED technology and equipment for monitoring the system’s electricity consumption, 5) Establishment of a 312 kW PV municipal solar park.
Armenia, Yerevan: Solar energy for residential buildings

The project in Yerevan was implemented under Demonstration projects programme. Within the project the following measures were implemented:
- Installation of photovoltaic systems on roofs of 97 multi-apartment residential buildings;
- Installation of LED luminaries with bulbs for outdoor lighting at the buildings;
- Installation of LED luminaries equipped with bulbs and motion sensors for indoor entrance/stairwell lighting at the 97 buildings;
- Provision of LED bulbs for low-income families in the 97 buildings;
- Establishment of revolving funds through which proceeds of sale of excess energy produced to the grid, will be used to finance energy efficiency and pay for maintenance and operation of the PV panels.
Georgia, Telavi: Thermal refurbishment of 2 kindergartens and establishment of the biomass supply chain

The main aim of the project was to enhance Georgian CoM signatories’ capacities in climate change mitigation and fulfilment of sustainable local energy policy through implementation of investment projects in line with their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans. Within the project the following measures were implemented: 1) Thermal refurbishment of the kindergarten in Ikalto village and construction of the biomass boiler house. 2) Thermal refurbishment of the kindergarten #1 in Telavi and construction of the biomass boiler house. 3) Establishment of the biomass supply chain for vineyard pruning residues collection, transportation and storing.
Armenia, Artik and Aparan: Construction of municipal PV plant and photovaltanic system

Artic and Aparan are two communities in Armenia that committed to the Covenant of Mayors initiative and decided to increase the share of energy that is produced from RES. The main aim of the project was to develop a viable model for community-lead renewable energy generation and sustainable energy transformation.

CoM East Group of Practitioners
This section will be filled in after the first meeting of the Group
CoM East Group of Practitioners
The work of the Group is supported by CoM East through its Helpdesk in its capacity of the Technical Secretariat of the Practitioner’s Group consisting of:
- Mrs. Iryna Horodyska, Capacity Building and Helpdesk Coordinator, CoM East;
- Mr. Artem Kharazyan, Regional Technical Helpdesk Coordinator, CoM East.
The Secretariat is responsible for the following activities:
- Organization of Group meetings;
- Preparation and communication of materials of the meetings and discussions;
- Moderation of meetings and recording of the decisions taken by the Group;
- Provision of additional information and clarifications at the request of the Practitioners;
- Incorporation of received comments and recommendations in final documents, etc.
CoM East Group of Practitioners
With the expansion of the Covenant of Mayors to the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region and active growth in the number of signatories in the region, considering the more ambitious commitments and demanding monitoring and reporting requirements, as well as in the context of the need for harmonization of local climate and energy strategies with national policies (e.g. NDCs) and international procedures (GCoM), the necessity to establish a regional methodological advisory body contributing to the development of the Initiatives for the benefit of the participating communities has become relevant.
The overarching goal of the Group of Practitioners is to bring together advanced signatories, stakeholders and experts in relevant fields willing to provide their input on key methodological and strategic developments of the Covenant both in individual countries and for the EaP region as a whole.
At the same time, the Group shall contribute to the strengthening networking and experience exchange between the practitioners from EaP and other regions.
The Group consists of representatives of the Covenant National and Territorial Coordinators, Covenant Supporters, signatories, stakeholders as well as experts from EaP countries with a background and experience relevant to the general or sectoral topics of the Group discussions.
Meetings and online discussions of the Group are usually organized once or twice a year but, if necessary, discussions can be organized more often.
Recommendations made by the Group will be taken into account in the decision-making process by the CoM East Secretariat and the Steering Committee.
