Ukraine: The first working meeting within the framework of MDCP “Energy and Climate Transformation”, Slavutych, 26/02/2019
On February 26, 2019, in Slavutych the first working meeting within the framework of the Municipal Development Coordination Platform “Energy and Climate Transformation” was successfully conducted. MDCP serves as a platform for dialogue between government authorities, municipalities, financial institutions, independent experts and public organizations.
The event brought together 18 Ukrainian city-signatories, National and Territorial Coordinators of the Covenant of Mayors, representatives of support structures, business and partners of the European Initiative.
The participants were greeted by the Mayor of Slavutych, Yuri Fomichev, the Head of the Energy Efficiency Sector of the Delegation of the European Union in Ukraine, Olga Borodankova, and the Head of the Energy Saving Division of the Housing and Utilities Sector of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, Roman Radchenko.
The project of the Municipal Platform and the work plan for 2019 were presented by the Team Leader of EU Project “Covenant of Mayors – East”, Christophe Frering and national expert of the EU Project “Covenant of Mayors – East” in Ukraine Oksana Kysil.
The event was marked by the solemn signing of the mayors of Baranovsky OTG, Chertkov, Energodar, Hola Prystan, Mirgorod, Pyriatyn, Slavutych, Tetiev and Voznesensk consent to participate in the Municipal Platform.
The internal capacity of municipalities to develop and manage projects within the framework of the SE(C)AP together with the mayors was discussed by the national expert of the EU Project “Covenant of Mayors – East” in Ukraine, Oksana Kysil, Team Leader of the EU Program “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects”, Jan Wanders, and the director of Association “Energy efficient cities of Ukraine ”, Svyatoslav Pavlyuk.
The Team Leader of the Project “Energy Efficiency in the Housing Sector of Ukraine”, Sophia Lynn, spoke about the development of the housing sector and the necessary steps to ensure energy-efficient modernization of the multi-family sector.
The practical experience of the development of the solar energy project in the city of Slavutych was shared by Mayor Yuri Fomichev and representatives of the NGO “Grininkubator”.
Quite interestingly, from a practical point of view, Chairman of the International Advisory and Economic Council of Amsterdam, Director of TechConnect, Ruben Nieuwenhuis with the support of Irina Osimok, WNISEF Local Economic Development Manager and founder of the International Summit of Mayors spoke about startups that contribute to the growth of the urban ecosystem.
