Yuriy Yatskiv wins Energy Managemer Star 2026 in Ukraine

Yuriy Yatskiv, energy manager at Drohobych City Council, won the Energy Manager Star 2026 competition at a networking event for municipal energy managers.

The competition ran in three stages, testing participants on professional skills, innovation and leadership in municipal energy management. It was Yatskiv’s third time entering. This year his consistent preparation and track record won him first placeSambir City Council, represented by Oksana Fur, took second place. Ternopil City Council’s Pavlo Savechko and Myrhorod City Council’s Inna Ruban shared third place.

In the final stage, participants took part in four panel discussions and set out their vision for the development of municipal energy management. Yatskiv presented Drohobych’s practical experience and received the highest score of the final day.

The final evaluation took place as part of a networking event that brought together around 37 energy managers, local government representatives, experts and partners to share experience and discuss solutions in local energy and climate governance. The programme covered the development of energy management systems, cross-sectoral cooperation, strengthening communities’ institutional and technical capacity, and building partnerships for local energy and climate policy.

The Energy Management Star competition has run since 2020. It is organised by the EU’s Covenant of Mayors – East (CoM East) initiative, in cooperation with Ukraine’s Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories. The competition supports the profession of municipal energy manager, raises its profile, recognises leading professionals, and shares practices that help communities manage energy resources, improve energy efficiency and meet their energy and climate goals.
