Sheki Deputy Mayor speaks at Baku Climate Action Week
Sayyara Musayeva, Deputy Mayor of Sheki Municipality (Azerbaijan) and Board Member of the Covenant of Mayors – East, spoke at two high-level sessions during Baku Climate Action Week, held 7–11 September 2026 in Baku.
On 9 September, Ms. Musayeva spoke at the invitation of the UNFCCC on the panel “From Ambition to Impact: Accelerating Climate Action” at the Climate Week 4 Opening Ceremony. The discussion explored how non-party stakeholders can help deliver decisive climate action and ensure real impact at scale and speed, towards COP31 and beyond.
On 10 September, the UNFCCC and the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan invited her to speak at the Impact Dialogue: “From Commitment to Delivery – Healthy, Resilient Cities through Climate-Urban Partnerships.” She said cities are where commitments turn into measurable results. Drawing on Sheki’s experience, she pointed to the value of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP)-driven, costed project pipelines, energy audits, bankable local projects, and strong national-to-local partnerships connecting planning to finance and delivery.
Baku Climate Action Week 2026 built on the first two editions, in 2024 and 2025, and the legacy of COP29, taking place alongside the UNFCCC Regional Climate Week in Baku to advance implementation of the Paris Agreement and national climate commitments.
