Georgia: EU Sustainable Energy Week 2018 Celebration in Telavi

Throughout month of June the Georgian Covenant of Mayors signatories have been joining the EUSEW 2018. The Signatories organised Sustainable Energy Days in their cities involving citizens, both youth and adults, in various interactive events. The theme of this year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) was ‘lead the clean energy transition’.

As a part of EUSEW 2018 this year’s Sustainable Energy Day in Telavi was successfully held on 29 June 2018.

The Energy Day activities included:

– the marathon with the participation of more than 150 young people from various public schools and sports’ clubs of Telavi municipality;
– exhibition of thematic drawings and street drawings performed by Telavi art school pupils; 
– quick quiz on energy efficiency and renewable energy
– local band music concert. 
All the participants got the certificate of participation and gifts (T-shirt and a cap). Winners in quick quiz were awarded with small prizes – summer sport hat caps with solar sun power cool fans and solar outdoor lamps.

The day ended up by meeting with famous Georgian documentary film maker Toma Chagelishvili and viewing and discussion of his recent short documentary film from a series “Energy Efficient Principles in Traditional Georgian Architecture”.

Telavi Municipality Deputy Mayor, G.Tushishvili and representatives of various municipal departments and public organizations, M.Chrelashvili, Director of Kakheti Regional Development Agency, representatives of “Covenant of Mayors-East” program took part in the SED events.

This year’s EUSEW-SED events in Telavi were jointly organized by Telavi Municipality City Hall and Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia within the framework of the EU-funded project “Biomass Energy and Energy Efficient Technologies as Sustainable Energy Solutions for Georgian CoM signatories”.

The project is financially supported by the EU4Energy initiative and Telavi Municipality City Hall within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors Demonstration Projects (CoM DeP) and implemented by Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia.
