Energy Efficiency Campaign Launches in Bălți to Promote Sustainable Heating Solutions
A new communication campaign, “Heat Your Home Efficiently, Protect Your Future!” was officially launched in Bălți, Moldova. The initiative is part of a broader project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) focused on district heating systems, equal opportunities, and climate policy participation. The campaign is being implemented with vital support from the Covenant of Mayor – Eastern Partnership, demonstrating a strong partnership for sustainable energy development in the region.
The communication campaign aims to inform and encourage residents to adopt horizontal heating systems and other energy-efficient consumption practices. Through various informational materials and varied channels, the campaign will deliver messages tailored to different target groups, including apartment owners in older buildings and individual heating users. Partnerships with the municipality, local media, the academic sector, and civil society organizations will help broaden the campaign’s message and increase awareness.
The launch event brought together key stakeholders from public and private sectors, academia, and the local community. The gathering emphasized the collaborative approach needed to build a sustainable energy future for Bălți.
Veronica Garbuz, CET-Nord representative, highlighted the importance of responsible energy choices: “Today, more than ever, it is essential to make responsible energy choices. Through horizontal heating, Bălți residents can benefit from greater comfort and significant energy cost savings while also contributing to environmental protection. We hope this project will become a model for other cities in Moldova.”
Dan Moraru, Investment Attraction Officer at Bălți City Hall, emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration: “In today’s climate and economic challenges, collaboration between public authorities and the private sector is crucial. The Bălți City Hall is firmly committed to supporting energy efficiency initiatives, which reduce costs and improve the quality of life for our citizens. Horizontal heating is an important step toward a more sustainable future for our community.”
Agostina Allori, AETS’ Gender Equality Specialist for the project, spoke about EBRD’s support: “It is key to supporting donors such as The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the transition to a green and sustainable future. Projects like this are vital for promoting sustainable energy and inclusive solutions worldwide and in Moldova. Horizontal heating reduces carbon emissions and provides enhanced comfort for residents, demonstrating that sustainability and energy efficiency can go hand in hand.”
